BTWRT 215 Business Communications

Focuses on all levels of business communication including writing, teamwork, presentations, and intercultural communications. Learn writing strategies to produce a variety of professional communications such as business letters, memos, e-mail, and a short report. Learn to use the Internet and Shoreline library database to research business topics and present information.
Prerequisite Required: Placement in ENGL& 101  or successful completion of ENGL 99 BTWRT 115  or equivalent with a 2.0 or better, or instructor permission.

Course Learning Outcomes:
  • Understand why communication skills are important to success in the workplace.
  • Apply the rules of netiquette to all electronic correspondences.
  • Demonstrate professional communications in the workplace by understanding business writing goals and writing processes.
  • Strengthen use of proper grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, spelling, and overall correct use of the English language.
  • Construct a professional email, resume, and cover letter for employment.
  • Use the Shoreline Library’s databases to conduct academic research in preparation for construction of a business report and presentation.
  • Practice writing skills that are culturally thoughtful within electronic media.
