ENGL 99 Analytical Reading and Writing Minimum Units: 5 Maximum Units: 5 Students develop analytical reading, writing, and thinking skills necessary for writing college-level essays. Prerequisite Required: Completion of ENGL 90 or equivalent with a 2.0 or better, or placement into ENGL 99, or instructor permission. Add Consent: Not Required Drop Consent: Not Required Grading System: Student option grading Course Typically Offered: Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring Course Learning Outcomes:
- Critically read and analyze information, ideas, and structural elements in a given text.
- Formulate and express information and ideas in basic academic forms of writing demonstrating purpose, focus, thesis, organization, and clarity of language.
- Assess the effectiveness of student’s own written and verbal communication and make adjustments as needed.
- Engage in a writing process using pre-writing, drafting, and finishing techniques as appropriate to the writing task.
- Write in a style and voice appropriate to most academic tasks with consideration of socially or culturally diverse readers.
