AES 101 Power and Positionality in the United States

Students will develop a personal and historical understanding of issues related to race, social class, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities & culture; and how these issues are used in the distribution of power and privilege in the U.S. Previously: MCS 105
Prerequisite Required: Completion of ENGL 99 or equivilant with a 2.0 or better, or placement into ENGL& 101 .

Course Learning Outcomes:
- Describe three relationships between oppression and social group categories.
- Identify examples of institutional racism in a given social problem.
- Apply an intersectional analysis to explain how a social problem enacts at least two types of oppression.
- Explain three ways to challenge the oppression caused by a given social problem.
- Describe how socioeconomic systems have affected your life differently from people in other social groups.
