ENGR 102 Introduction to Electronics Minimum Units: 5 Maximum Units: 5 Project-based introduction to electronics including coverage of the Arduino microcontroller and Python. Weekly projects cumulate in a final project of the students’ own design. Design and rapid prototyping techniques are introduced, including circuit simulation, breadboard assembly, printed circuit board layout and soldering. Prerequisite Required: MATH 99 , and ENGL 99 or equivalent, with grades of 2.0 or better. - Identify components using two terminal black box testing methods and electronic testing equipment.
- Assemble electronic circuit prototypes using soldering techniques.
- Qualitatively describe input transduction electronic sensors, such as sensors for sound, light, position and proximity.
- Qualitatively describe electromagnetic output transducers, such as solenoids, motor and loudspeakers.
- Describe the difference between DC, transient and time domain signals.
- Design and build a simple sound amplifier.
- Build and employ a simple music synthesizer to generate sound.
- Characterize the power output of an alternative energy source, such as a wind turbine, water wheel or solar panel.
- Collect and display sensor data using a microcontroller.
