MATH 99 Intermediate Algebra Minimum Units: 5 Maximum Units: 5 Fundamentals and applications of algebra with graphing. Covers linear, quadratic, exponential, and logarithmic functions. Solving equations and inequalities involving these functions. Includes radical and rational expressions, systems of linear equations, and modeling. Prerequisite Required: Placement into MATH 99 OR concurrent enrollment in MATH 49 . - Write equations of lines. Solve linear equations and inequalities in one variable. Use linear equations to solve application problems.
- Interpret slope as a rate of change in formulas, graphs, tables, and applications.
- Graph functions, particularly linear, quadratic, and exponential functions.
- Use function notation correctly. Determine the domain and range of a function.
- Solve quadratic equations by factoring, completing the square, and using the quadratic formula.
- Solve systems of linear equations. Use systems of linear equations to solve application problems.
- Evaluate exponential expressions. Use graphs to solve basic exponential equations. Use exponential equations to solve application problems.
- Identify whether a function is linear, quadratic, or exponential. Create and draw conclusions from linear, quadratic, and exponential models.
- Simplify square roots, cube roots, and simple rational powers of algebraic expressions.
- Simplify, add, subtract, and multiply rational expressions. Solve simple equations involving rational expressions.
- Solve simple absolute value equations.
