AES 104 Introduction to Chicanx/Latinx Studies Minimum Units: 5 Maximum Units: 5 This course will examine the major themes and issues related to the Chicanx and Latinx community in the U.S., including: race and racism, indigenous culture, colonialism, war, migration, citizenship, language and family among others. Students will critically examine the political and cultural formation of the U.S. borders and how they relate to the creation of “Chicanx”, “Latinx” and “American” identity. Key moments will be covered from the pre-Columbian and Spanish colonial periods to the present with a focus on expression, resistance and participation in social movements.
