AES 102 Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies Minimum Units: 5 Maximum Units: 5 This course examines Asian American and Pacific Islander history, experiences and perspectives from mid-1800’s to the present. Major topics will include the intersection of race, ethnicity, gender, and class, with special emphasis placed on labor and immigration policies, citizenship, community and social and political resistance. The impacts of race, racialization, white supremacy, orientalism, colonialism, imperialism, war, social inequity, and migration will be examined. This course provides a context for understanding the pan-ethnic movement and includes analysis of the U. S. Constitution, Supreme Court Rulings, and Washington State and local government issues related to the rights of Asian Americans.
