MUSTC 154 Synthesizers: Modular & FM Minimum Units: 3 Maximum Units: 3 Introducing creative sound design using a modular synthesis construction program to demonstrate underlying theory. Subtractive, modular and FM synths will be explained, using oscillators, EGs, filters and dynamic modulation controls. Creative sound design w/ modular synthesis software. Concepts of modular and FM synthesis. Prerequisite Required: MUSTC 151 with a grade of P or 2.0 or better, or instructor permission. - Describe, explain and utilize subtractive analog-style synthesizers for creative sound design.
- Describe, explain and utilize FM synthesizers for creative sound design.
- Create modular (subtractive) and FM synth sounds according to a given specification; interpret production requests to execute desired modifications to electronic instrument sounds.
- Construct and describe a software synthesizer containing subtractive and FM elements using a modular application.
- Explain the history of modular subtractive and FM synthesis.
