MUSTC 151 Introduction to Music Technology

Course introduces students to electronic music technology and production using personal computers with DAW, synthesizers, samplers, DSP FX and electronic control devices. The history, transmission, and protocols of Audio and MIDI data are examined.

Course Learning Outcomes:
  • Describe the historical context and current development of digital audio and electronic music systems.
  • Apply data flow protocol to configure hardware and software into a functional digital audio production environment.
  • Identify the role of synthesis and sampling in electronic music production.
  • Demonstrate basic techniques for digital audio and MIDI manipulation.
  • Identify and use vocabulary applicable to a broad range of music technology topics
