MATH& 146 Introduction to Stats Minimum Units: 5 Maximum Units: 5 Introductory statistics course. Analysis of data through graphical and numerical methods, linear regression, the Normal distribution, data collection, elementary probability, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing. Emphasis on applications. Satisfies Quantitative Reasoning requirement for AA degree. Prerequisite Required: Placement into MATH& 146 or MATH& 107 , AND placement into ENGL 99 or equivalent. - Analyze data using graphical and numerical methods and mathematical models when appropriate.
- Present data using appropriate graphs and summary numbers.
- Use linear regression to model bivariate data when appropriate.
- Describe and employ sampling techniques to collect data.
- Describe and recognize elements of experimental design.
- Compute and interpret elementary theoretical probabilities.
- Use the connections between probability, proportion and area to answer questions about any of these. Use probability distributions, such as the normal distribution, when appropriate.
- Construct confidence intervals and perform hypothesis tests.
- Evaluate published statistical information with a critical eye.
