ENGL 271 Beginning Poetry Writing I Minimum Units: 5 Maximum Units: 5 ENGL 271 introduces students to the pleasure craft of writing poetry. Students read poems in a variety of styles and voices, as well as texts on poetic theory. In addition, students write their own poems, bearing in mind Robert Frost’s remark that ‘a poem begins in delight and ends in wisdom.’ Prerequisite Required: Completion of ENGL 99 or equivalent with 2.0 or higher, or placement into ENGL& 101 , or instructor permission.
