International Student Medical Insurance

shoreline.edu/international/admission/medical-insurance.aspx

Federal and Washington State laws require international students to maintain adequate health insurance while attending Shoreline Community College. Additionally, Shoreline Community College requires that all international students with an F-1 Visa carry insurance issued through the College; the cost of medical insurance is automatically included in their tuition and fees.

Students are responsible for their healthcare expenses in the United States, and a single day of hospitalization can cost thousands of dollars. We contract with LewerMark Student Insurance to provide international students with access to excellent medical facilities and protection against the substantial costs of health care in the United States.

Parking and Transportation

(206) 546-4633 • safetyandsecurity@shoreline.edu • 5000 Building (FOSS), Room 5102

shoreline.edu/safetyandsecurity/parking.aspx

The Campus Safety and Security Department at Shoreline Community College manages the rules and regulations for pedestrian, vehicular, and non-vehicular traffic on campus. RCW 28B.50.140 (10) grants these rules and regulations to the College to ensure fair and uniform enforcement. Violations may result in fines and violations of the Student Conduct Code.

General Parking

General parking on campus requires a permit. Daily permits can be purchased at pay stations for $3.00 (2 hours), $5.00 (4 hours), or $7.50 (all day). Quarterly permits are available for $45 plus tax at the Cashier’s Office in the 5000 FOSS Building, Room 5227. Permits must be displayed on the vehicle’s rearview mirror and do not guarantee a parking spot.

Free parking is available after 4:00pm Monday through Friday, and all day on weekends, holidays, and during campus closures. Students may park in staff and visitor lots during these times.

Motorcycle and Bicycle Parking

Motorcycles and bicycles have designated areas for parking and do not require permits. Bicycles must be locked to bike racks only. Those locked in non-designated areas may have their locks cut and be impounded by Campus Security.

Disabled and Carpool Parking

Disabled parking requires a valid Washington State Disabled Parking Permit.

Carpool parking permits are free for vehicles with two or more students. You can obtain these permits from the Campus Safety & Security Department.

Parking Violations and Fines

shoreline.edu/safetyandsecurity/appealcitation.aspx

Parking in prohibited areas or illegally can lead to fines or vehicle impoundment; multiple unpaid violations may also result in impoundment. Prohibited areas include bus zones, fire lanes, landscaped areas, loading zones, “no parking” areas, red-zoned curbs, roadways, service driveways, walkways, and pedestrian paths. Additional violations include blocking a fire hydrant, blocking another car, double parking, outstanding unpaid citations, or parking in tow-away zones.

Fines can be paid at the Cashier’s Office. Appeals must be submitted to the Safety & Security Office within five business days of the citation date; after this period, the right to appeal is waived.
