DENHY 471 Community and Public Health Dentistry I Minimum Units: 2 Maximum Units: 2 Students work in groups to develop and implement a community- based program with an educational component. Lectures cover educational methodology including the Dental Hygiene Process of Care (ADPIE), teaching methods, analysis of special group characteristics, formulation of lesson plans and development of visual aids.
The course builds on the pre-requisite knowledge gained about communication, including written and oral presentations. The course focuses on similarities and differences between individual patient care and community health and provides a foundation for further study. Successful completion of the course leads to increased effectiveness in understanding dental hygiene care at the population level, experience in creating written and oral presentations in group settings, and research applications to further study in oral epidemiology.
